Jane Pinel

Jane was always involved in the arts as painter and teacher. Originally she became interested in clay and pottery in order to teach it to children. After pottery classes at the Museum School in Boston, and private instruction, she became assistant to William Wyman, an internationally known potter and teacher. During this time she also studied at Haystack School of Crafts in Maine.

She traveled in Europe for four months, photographing and interviewing famous potters; Francine Del Pierre, Hans Coper, Llorens Artigas and Bernard Leach.

Other responsibilities then intervened and pottery was put aside for a number of years during which Jane taught school and later became the owner and publisher of Wellspring magazine.

Now retired, she is returning to her first love of clay in her small, red studio, called "Africa." Her work integrates the natural qualities of the clay with the marks and pressures of the hands in the formation of each pot.
